Good people

From the Little League coach. This is striking to me, perhaps, because when I queried the soccer coach about whether they had space for a kid with a mild club foot I got no response. Ditto the karate teacher.

Baseball it is. Baseball is just fine.

My opinion: If L wants to play, let him play. The league is not competitive at this age. Every child gets to hit every inning and every child plays in the field every inning. Sports will become more competitive each year, with this year (1st grade) being the last year runs scored are not recorded. This is a difficult decision for you, but this is a good age to try as many sports as possible to see if L likes any of them. And, baseball is more standing around than running.

It may be worth sharing that my mother had polio as a child and never recovered, losing the use of her left leg. I love hearing her stories of playing baseball on crutches. That said, I would never want to see any child put in a situation that would be psychologically damaging (and she has those stories too). You know your child best. I only offer to you that he would be safe with me.

It's wonderful that the coach would write that! My Dad was always very disappointed in my lack of athletic ability. He, "Jack of All Trades" was a good student, musician, and football player...I was only good at the first two!

L is so lucky to have you for a parent!

God bless this man. He sounds like a mensch.

I always sucked at baseball. My grandsons are stars.
