His friend is sick, we discover. His hair is falling out in patches, and the school nurse has talked to the class about the sickness in an effort to forestall teasing and whispers. His parents took him into the city early this week for special testing; nobody really knows why his hair is falling out, or whether it's related to a variety of other symptoms, like his allergies and asthma. I only know that he doesn't look as healthy as he did last year--that he's paler and thinner and tires easier--and that his mother's eyes are anxious.
He is the only kid on the team who can catch a fly ball and get it to second base on time. Years ahead of the rest.

I've missed you and your family.
Liam has been given an opportunity, early in life, to show compassion and understanding. What a challenging life that boy has had in his few years!
I think he has strong shoulders.
Strong shoulders and the best Mom on Earth!
Hope your Mom is doing better...missed you these past days!
